The range

Twelve ways to control light — and one to fix what's already up

Every elevation on a Mooikloof stand works differently — a stable-yard-facing lounge wants the view kept, a west-facing bedroom wants total dark. This is the full range we fit, made to measure for each window, plus the repair service for blinds that are already in place.

Blind Repairs

Not every window needs a new blind. A jammed chain, a snapped cord, a slipping tilt mechanism, a motor that has lost its limits, a bracket pulling out of the plaster — most of it is fixable, and it is almost always the cheaper answer. We service and repair blinds already fitted in Mooikloof homes, whoever originally installed them, and we will tell you honestly when a repair is not worth doing.

Built for Mooikloof

Big stands change the brief

Mooikloof Equestrian Estate carries some of the largest residential stands in Pretoria East — and that changes what actually belongs on the windows here, well beyond the usual choice of fabric.

01

Double-volume glass changes the brief

Mooikloof's larger stands carry double-volume living rooms and galleried landings, with glass too high and too wide for a hand chain to reach comfortably. Motorisation isn't a luxury add-on out here — it's how the blind actually gets used, day to day.

02

The estate's sightlines matter

Aesthetic guidelines on estates like this one protect the clean street-facing lines of a home, so facade-mounted shading such as external venetians needs to be specified and finished to match the architecture, not bolted on as an afterthought.

03

Stable-yard dust and storm season

Riding arenas and stable yards put fine dust in the air on a still day, and Pretoria's summer storm season — roughly November to March — brings sudden wind ahead of the rain. Wind-sensor retraction on awnings and external blinds is standard on exposed terraces, not optional.

04

West-facing entertainment areas take the brunt

Braai rooms, pyjama lounges and pool decks angled west for the afternoon light get the most glare complaints. Sunscreen roller fabric or external venetians are usually the fix, not blockout — the view over the estate is exactly what people are paying for.

The estate gate, opening onto the light every window here is built to manage.

The Mooikloof Stand & Sun Field Guide

Before you pick a single blind, read what the Pretoria East sun actually does to an open one-hectare stand — elevation by elevation, with the honest trade-offs on every product and real sources at the foot. No email needed to read it.

  • Why the afternoon, not midday, is the problem on a west-facing Mooikloof lounge.
  • Which product beats which, and where each one is the wrong call.
  • A two-minute ballpark tool for a budget range by the next working day — entirely optional.
  • What only an on-site measure can settle — reveal depth, fixings, wind, motor power.
How it works

02

Questions

Honest answers before you commit

Do you need estate access approval to come out and measure?
Usually it's a simple visitor sign-in at the gate. If your estate needs advance notice for contractors or consultants, let us know when you book and we'll arrange the visit around it.
What's the difference between sunscreen and blockout, and which do I need for a stable-yard-facing room?
Blockout stops light completely — right for bedrooms and media rooms. Sunscreen fabric, usually 3% or 5% openness, cuts glare and UV while keeping the view through during the day, which is why it's the default for arena- and paddock-facing living areas. Many homes end up with both on the same window, as a double roller.
Will an awning or external blind survive a highveld storm?
Wind is the real risk, not the rain. We fit motorised awnings and external venetians with a wind sensor as standard on exposed elevations, so the system retracts itself before a sudden gust or hailstorm can damage it — you don't have to be home to react.
Will an external blind change the look of my home from the street?
It can — external venetians sit on the facade, so we talk finish and colour-match up front and flag anything worth running past your estate's architectural guidelines before you commit to anything.
Do you offer child-safe options?
Yes, on every corded or chained product. Cord and chain tensioners are standard on every installation, and for nurseries or playrooms we recommend cordless or motorised control — nothing dangling within reach at all.
Can you repair blinds someone else installed?
Yes. Snapped cords, jammed chains, a slipping tilt mechanism, brackets working loose out of plaster, motors that have lost their limit settings — most of it is repairable regardless of who fitted the blind originally. Send us a photo or describe the fault when you enquire and we'll tell you honestly whether a repair makes sense or whether you're better off replacing that window's blind.
How does the process actually work, from enquiry to fitted blinds?
You reach out through the form or chat on this site, we book a free in-home measure where a consultant brings samples and measures every window, you receive a written quote itemised per window, and once you approve it your blinds are made to order and fitted.
